Video of the moment

It's the time of year when music critics start compiling Best of 2014 albums. One this scribe will give serious consideration to is The Future Happens Anyway, the fourth and arguably best record yet from Toronto band NQ Arbuckle.
They have just put out a video for their latest single, "Lifeboat (Song for Carolyn Mark)", and it is a fine visual accompaniment to the catchiest and most upbeat song on the record. A press release describes the clip this way: "Outdoor performance footage is juxtaposed with montages of gigs and life on the road, while a crew of kids crashes the stage to emulate their roots rocker dads. Friends and family crowd the stage for a full-out backyard party before the gang settles down to take a well-deserved break for some beer and popsicles".
No shots of bubbly-swigging supermodels on a luxury yacht for these cats. Instead, it perfectly captures their unpretentious vibe and the charm of mainman Neville Quinlan, our favourite bar-room bard. The song is dedicated to Canadian country-rock fave Carolyn Mark, and she makes a cameo appearance. Her 2009 album with NQ Arbuckle, Let's Just Stay Here, comes highly recommended too.
NQ Arbuckle take the stage at one of their fave haunts, Toronto's Horsehoe Tavern, on November 22. The ragged glory of their gigs always makes for a fun time.
