Video of the moment

Every week we select a music video by a Canadian group or artist who have recently been reviewed by our editorial team. If you'd like to suggest a video for consideration, you can send us a message using this form.

DAVIDS is a Toronto electronica artist who clearly favours anonymity over the spotlight. He e-mailed us recently to explain he hates appearing in videos, so for the new clip to his track "Right On", he recruited Apocryphal Avulsion, a black metal band from Cayuga, to appear instead.

The juxtaposition works strikingly well, as the aggressive look and energy of the band matches the tempo and edge of the industrial-flavoured track and the strobe-like rapid edits. The high quality of the clip comes as no surprise when you learn it's a collaboration between acclaimed director Christopher Mills (Interpol, Broken Social Scene, Modest Mouse) and DIVORCE (Arkells, The Dirty Nil). The cutting-edge work of Mills was recently honoured with a special prize at The Prism Awards, and this is a fine addition to his videography.

"Right On" is the third single to be taken from his first EP, 0613EP. It is available on BandCamp as a free download. It features production and mixing assistance from Jordon Zadorozny (Blinker The Star) and Mitch Bowden, and guest vocals from Bowden, Nilla and the excellent Terra Lightfoot.

DAVIDS informs us that a new EP is close to release. You can also check out DAVIDS sounds over on SoundCloud.
