Video of the moment

Every week we select a music video by a Canadian group or artist who have recently been reviewed by our editorial team. If you'd like to suggest a video for consideration, you can send us a message using this form.

The return to the fray of Toronto songstress Valery Gore after a long absence (since acclaimed 2008 album Avalanche To Wandering Bear) has been deservedly well-received. Released earlier this month, her new record Idols In The Dark Heart has earned accolades from U.S. tastemakers like Stereogum and NYLON, and she's sure to grab more attention with an impressive new video for one of its tracks, "With The Future".

The beautifully shot clip (directed by Toronto filmmaker Chandler Levack) has a domestic setting, with the protagonist going about her daily routine while seemingly fantasizing about a future lover. The MuchFACT-funded video neatly complements a haunting cut that possesses a rather Bjork-like feel.

Describing her sound, Gore notes "I make electro alternative pop music with a bunch of jazz nerds". She played The Drake in Toronto this week, and has upcoming gigs at Fort Erie's The Sanctuary (Oct. 4), London's Palace Theatre (Oct. 10) and Montreal's La Victrola (Nov. 29).

You can check out more of her music at Soundcloud or Bandcamp.
